Toddlers and Sleep
|
|
Most toddlers will require a sleep in the middle of the day ( 1 to 2 hours) but need 10 to 12 hours at night. Though getting them to bed isn't always easy they should sleep through the night. A regular routine should help set up a pattern of going off to sleep without too much resistance.
Some toddlers will wake early in the morning no matter their bedtime and though there isn't much to be done about that there are ways to avoid the delayed sleep at night when the toddler is getting back out of bed or calling out after being put to bed:
Don't have active games or play before bedtime
Have a pattern of a calm and regular going to bed time
Check that there is nothing the child needs and remind them to stay in bed
Do not respond to call from the bedroom if you can help it (this obviously needs discretion as you don't want to ignore a real need, such as a wet bed etc)
